Stebel Magnums

I just finished fitting stebel magnum horns to my SV650S.

Mounting the Horns

I mounted them inside the fairing, using the radiator mount screw on the right and the stock horn bracket mount on the left. I shortened the brackets, drilling a 6 mm hole closer to the middle. You need to take care drilling thin sheet metal like this, the drill can grab and you wouldn't want to be hold the bracket in your hand when that happened. Note that according to the comments on the box, the horns are pretty fussy about their orientation.

Mounting the Relay

There is plenty of space just under the front of the fuel tank and I was hoping to just drop it in there. In the end I wasn't happy with this. I could have used a bracked which went under the front tank screws but I didn't want the extra fiddling each time I removed the tank. I ended up drilling a 5 mm hole inside meter panel near where it fixes to the fairing and then bolting it up inside. I used a round head allen key stainless bolt with a nylock nut.

Power

I ran power directly from the battery with an inline fuse. I had to trim the terminal cover so it would stay on with the extra lug there. I ran the wire along the left side to the relay. The earth on the left hand side came from the screw that holds the loom retainer bracket. I ran this to the left horn. On the right hand side, the horn mounting bracket seemed to be a solid earth.

Switch

The horns are energised in parallel with the stock horn. I performed some surgery on the connector that goes to the stock horn involving pulling out the original female spade connectors, fitting them with wires in paralled which were then routed up to the relay.
